Summary

The Payroll Operations Analyst is responsible for the day-to-day execution of payroll tasks to establish and maintain accurate employee and payroll records, execute payroll processing production, and ultimately produce accurate and timely payroll payments to employees for Marsh & McLennan Companies and its related subsidiaries.

The Payroll Operations Analyst is responsible for closely following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and company policies at all times to ensure company compliance and minimize risk. This position requires basic to intermediate knowledge of company policies and procedures, federal, state/provincial and local payroll tax law and employment regulations.

As the work requires, this role must liaise directly with both internal and external stakeholders including but not limited to other HRSS partners, GOSS, Data Center Operations, Human Resources, Treasury, Benefits, Finance, Global Mobility, Executive Compensation, Employee Relations, Legal, and Corporate Tax. The Payroll Operations Analyst will communicate regularly with supervisors/managers and escalate compliance issues to management as needed. The position requires excellent client service skills, close attention to detail, excellent communication skills, advanced interpersonal skills and a dedication to teamwork as well as process improvement identification and implementation.

Responsibilities

Payroll Data Management: Utilize HRMS software (i.e. Workday) to effectively manage the day-to-day processing of employee payroll. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Audit/process withholding tax set up and changes for employee using W-4 and multi-state tax withholding information while ensuring proper set up in employee s tax jurisdictions using payroll software,
  • Audit of employee data to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws including FLSA, FMLA, and SOX governance,
  • Audit new hires, rehires, and transfers entered into the payroll system for accuracy,
  • Execution of assigned unique duties (i.e. garnishments).

Transactional Input:

  • Update earnings, taxes, and voluntary and involuntary deductions for appropriate payroll cycle(s) by data entry into HRMS system (i.e. Workday, Additional Pay, Tax Instructions and Distribution, Job Data, and General Deductions).

Quality & Operational Management:

  • Closely follow documentation and assist in maintaining Payroll Operations Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure day-to-day maintenance through maker/checker and leveraging ServiceNow queue.
  • Report concerns to Payroll Operations Supervisor and/or Payroll Operations Manager when issues are identified and/or escalated.

Customer Service:

  • Utilize data and reporting from work management tools (i.e. ServiceNow) to ensure that Service Level Agreements are met or exceeded, by providing timely service and quality problem resolution each and every time.
  • Communicate effectively with teams across HRSS to ensure customer service SLAs are met and/or exceeded.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education

  • Associate Degree preferred or equivalent work experience

Experience:

  • 1-3 years of payroll processing experience

Knowledge and skills:

  • Basic to intermediate payroll law and payroll production knowledge required
  • Requires strong communication (written & oral), organization, and customer service skills
  • Requires strong computer and analytical skills in a Windows based environment including Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Strong knowledge of HRMS (i.e. Workday, PeopleSoft) and case management software (i.e. ServiceNow) preferred

Other Requirements:

  • Payroll Certification highly preferred (FPC)
